Raised beds can be useful for vegetables, herbs or ornamental planting where a defined growing space is wanted. Choose a height and width you can work with comfortably. Structural retaining walls and installations needing building expertise are not assumed to be part of this service.

We consider sunlight, reach, drainage, the base and access for bringing in materials. The proposed materials need to suit the intended use, especially for edible planting. Before work starts, we agree the bed size, construction or assembly arrangement, filling and any planting. Larger or structural designs need separate confirmation.

If an old bed is being replaced, tell us about existing timber, soil and plants. Reuse and removal should be agreed. Packaging and surplus materials also need a clear tidy-up arrangement.

On compact Auckland properties, positioning matters as much as size. Leave usable paths around the bed and consider access to water. A shaded side strip may be a poor place for sun-loving crops even if there is enough physical room.
